Our August Special Mission Offering is for Habitat For Humanity Greater San Francisco. The mission of the Greater San Francisco Habitat for Humanity is to make the dream of home ownership a reality for low‐income families ‐ a virtually unattainable dream for the majority of residents in San Francisco, Marin and the Peninsula.
Here are the current Mission, Vision and Values Statements for Habitat for Humanity of Greater San Francisco:
MISSION: Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco partners with working families and the community to build affordable ownership homes in San Francisco, Marin, and the Peninsula.
VISION: With input from volunteers, partner homeowners, donors, community leaders and staff, Habitat Greater San Francisco’s Board of Directors approved a plan to meet ambitious goals by 2020.
Under the 2020 Vision, we plan to:
- Build 400 more homes in Marin, San Francisco and the Peninsula: several new developments have been proposed in all three counties served by the organization.
- Deepen our community impact by renovating 200 more homes and 50 neighborhood facilities, and helping more families to qualify for homeownership through financial skillbuilding programs.
- Leverage Habitat’s highly visible brand to raise awareness of the local Habitat Greater San Francisco affiliate and stimulate more involvement through volunteerism and philanthropy.
- Dramatically increase revenue generation through fundraising, community support and a new Habitat ReStore.
VALUES: Habitat Greater San Francisco provides a hand‐up, not a hand‐out for families in desperate need of improved living conditions. Our homeowners invest 500 hours of sweat equity to help build their own homes as well as additional time for homeowner workshops. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable, zero interest mortgages. Please give generously to help our neighbors in need. Thank you so much on behalf of the Habitat families.
Our goal for this offering is $600.
September’s Special Mission Offering will be for Opportunity Services Center of Palo Alto and InnVision Shelter Network.
Our special offering for September supports the Opportunity Services Center, our local center of Invision/Shelter Network, which addresses the needs of the homeless in our area. The Opportunity Services Center, located at 33 Encina Avenue in Palo Alto, functions as a service to the wider community by providing a creative response to home-less related problems and offering opportunities for the community to respond to those needs. Its highest concern is to provide a positive and caring environment that respects the dignity of every person.
The Opportunity Center itself has 88 units of housing for both single adults and families. It provides a wide variety of services to assist with basic needs and to enable people to find stability in their lives and housing.
The first step towards helping community members find their way out of homelessness, or to help them avoid it, is to provide for their basic needs, such as a hot cup of coffee, somewhere to perform personal hygiene, a place to pick up mail or return a phone call, assistance in finding food and shelter, and a supportive sense of community. Once they’re in the door with some basic needs met, people need access to a wide variety of social, rehabilitative, and educational services.
The Opportunity Center is a place that is organized and set up to address a wide range of those needs that go beyond the basics.
This September offering gives us the opportunity to impact those in need right here at home. Please give generously to help meet this goal.
Our goal for this offering is $600.
