Belated Happy New Year! Thanks to Pastor Gregory, Betsy and everyone else who covered for me while I was in Idaho. It was cold and snowy but it was good to have time with my family. My sister is continuing to recover from her brain surgery and is grateful for all the healing thoughts and prayers.
A couple notes going forward. There is a signup sheet for hosting coffee hour in the sanctuary entryway. Please sign up to help with this important part of being a hospitable congregation. You can keep it simple but it is good to have the table to gather around after worship for the community and guests alike.
We also would like to expand our card ministry. Our thought is to keep a big basket of various greeting cards in the Community Office, which we could also make available on Sunday mornings for the community to sign and share with those who are celebrating, ill, grieving, etc. If you have an excess of greeting cards lurking in a drawer or box or bag somewhere that you would be willing to contribute that would help us launch this expansion. Birthday, get well, condolence, thinking of you, blank cards, etc. would all be appreciated. Thanks to Sachiko Berry who picked up this ministry from Ruth Anderson and has done it for quite a while now.
Sunday is the anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. We will remember and celebrate his life and ministry in our worship time. The text for the day recognizes the work of another prophet, John the Baptist, as well as the calling of Jesus’ first disciples, according to the gospel of John. “What are you looking for?” Jesus asks those first two disciples of John, who break away to follow Jesus. What a simple and compelling question, one that echoes down to us through the ages. What are we looking for as people who claim discipleship in our own time and place?
In Adult Spiritual Formation we will continue our consideration of the excellent video series, Saving Jesus Redux. The excerpts we watch from these videos each week are yielding significant and helpful discussion of and insight into Jesus’ life and ministry. See you Sunday at 10 AM for worship and Sunday School, including Adult Spiritual Formation. Bring someone along to share the morning with you.
Our theme for this year is “All Are Welcome in this Place.” Let’s make certain that it is so.
