It is that time of the year again that we give thanks for the food on our tables and the clothing on our backs. It is also that special time that we at First Baptist Church share out resources with our neighbors who are less fortunate.
We share a long history with the Ecumenical Hunger Program. In 1975. In 1975, Miriam Nixon and a group from Church Women United which included women from our own congregations began channeling surplus and donated food to neighborhood pantries where it was distributed to families in need.
EHP was incorporated in 1978 as a non-profit organization. Under the direction of Nevida Butler, EHP began providing direct services to families in need in 1981 and has grown to become the largest direct emergency food provider in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
EHP had grown over the years in the types of services it provides. In addition to food, it provides clothing, furniture and household goods. It also provides case management and other services of need to the community.
As is our custom, along with taking this special offering to support the work of EHP, we are collecting non-perishable food items and turkeys and hams for EHP’s annual Thanksgiving food drive.
Below is a food wish list as published on the EHP website. Of course, you may bring other non-perishable food items that you wish to donate. We will keep you posted on our final collection date in the November Midweek Messages.
