As most of you are aware, our youth are growing up, graduating from high school and going on to college. Our first graduate is Oscar Ramirez, who we have watched grow and mature into a wonderful young man with many talents. He is the first in line in our current group of youth, with a new graduate expected every year for the next 6 years.
Recognizing the tremendous costs of education today, we have launched a project to help support our youth with their aspirations of pursuing a college education. At our last Quarterly Business Meeting, congregation members present voted to dedicate this month’s offering to seed a scholarship fund. It was suggested that this fund be a part of Special Funds in order to the money grow into a larger fund.
The specifics of this fund are yet to be developed, although we have models in other churches to help guide us. We need a special scholarship committee of about 3 -4 people to put together a plan. If you would be interested in serving, please let Rick or Carolyn Shepard know. We cannot hope to provide full scholarships as other institutions are able to do, but we can provide a small token that might be used for books or other needs.
Our goal for this offering this year is $500.
